Communities In Schools of Texas
The first Texas CIS program came to Houston in 1979. During the early 1980’s Texas public education was being overhauled and included funding in the state budget to increase CIS programs. As a result, the CIS program was expanded in Texas to Austin, Dallas, El Paso, San Antonio and beyond.
The Challenge
Today’s Texas students carry with them to school a myriad of needs still unmet. There are limited accessible resources at the community level to meet students’ critical needs, but kids need connection and encouragement to sure up gaps and help them overcome obstacles. Campus-based specialists empower students to stay in school and achieve in life. CIS provides front line support inside public school campuses for thousands of kids across the state.
